The Digital Literacy Lab
Welcome to your digital reality check.
We live in a world where everything you see online is curated, engineered, and designed to capture your attention. The platforms know more about your behaviour than you do. The algorithms are optimised for engagement, not your wellbeing.
But here's the thing—once you understand how the game works, you can start playing by your own rules.
Why This Lab Exists
After reading "Careless People" and experiencing my own digital hangovers (yes, that foggy, lethargic feeling after too much screen time is real), I realised something crucial: we need to think critically about what we're consuming and how we're engaging online.
I grew up climbing trees with muddy feet. Social media wasn't part of daily life. Now, in my thirties, I'm tech-savvy and love what technology can do for society—but I've watched too many brilliant business owners burn out from digital overwhelm whilst trying to grow their companies online.
The solution isn't to abandon technology. It's to become digitally literate in the truest sense.

The Philosophy
Digital literacy isn't just about knowing how to use technology—it's about understanding how technology uses you.
When you understand the psychological triggers, the attention-capture mechanisms, and the economic incentives behind social media platforms, you can make informed choices about how to engage.
You can have professional visibility without personal burnout. You can stay connected without feeling controlled. You can use social media as a tool to remind people you exist, without it consuming your existence.
Personal networks will always be stronger than any algorithm. This lab helps you remember that whilst navigating the digital world strategically.
A Note from the Curator
I practice what I preach, not what I practice. (Seriously, don't look at my social media accounts as an example of perfect execution!)
What I do have is experience with digital detox, an understanding of how these platforms work, and a commitment to helping others find their own sustainable approach to technology.
This lab is a living resource—constantly updated as I discover new insights, research, and tools that help us all become more digitally literate.
